Don was a graduate of Thomas Carr Howe High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army where he was chosen to be a member of the Honor Guard. Don attended Purdue University and graduated from Bradley University with a degree in Horology. He married Jeanine Carol Rairdon, and was employed with Rost Jewelers for 11 years, and then with Esterline-Angus for 27 years as a Mechanical Horologist.
Don received the distinct rank of Eagle Scout with BSA Troop #3, Irvington, where his son David was also a Boy Scout and was always willing to assist Leaders with expeditions and transportation. He was in Indian Princesses with his daughter, Leisa; and Indian Guides with his son, David. Don was a longtime member of Burge Terrace Baptist Church.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 29, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Jeanine Fitzwater; daughter, Leisa Campbell (Joey); son, David Fitzwater (Chris); and grandchildren, Daric, Cassie, Daniel and Cara Fitzwater, and Sean and Lora Campbell.
A brother, Richard Fitzwater, preceded him in death.
He will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
