Murlin “Mike” Ehrgott, 97, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at his home in Mountainside. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Mountainside since 1956.

Mike was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945. He received his BS in chemical engineering from Newark College of Engineering in 1949 and his Master’s degree in 1956. He was employed as a chemical engineer with Crown Cork & Seal Co. in Philadelphia before retiring in 1987. He was previously employed with various can coating companies including Inmont.

Mike was a an emeritus member of Sigma XI Scientific Research Society; the American Chemical Society (Tau Beta Pi); a life member of the American Philatelic Society; the Westfield Stamp Club; the Westfield Historical Society and the American Legion Post #3 in Westfield.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Betty, who died in 2010; and is survived by his devoted children Mary Lou Pastore and her husband Dan, Charles Ehrgott, Jr., Katherine Roché, Curtis Ehrgott and his wife Susan; cherished grandchildren Jessica Mezic and her husband Steve, Meredith Santinelli and her husband Gianluca, Helen Ehrgott-Trovato and her husband Joe, Katie Simon and her husband Rob, Alex Roche, Emily and Christian Ehrgott, great grandchildren Aiden Ehrgott, Connor Simon, Anabella, Lilianna, and Gabriella Santinelli, and Elah Pope; and his brother, Donald.
