Nona Charmaine Doty passed away peacefully on November 14, 2018 at the age of 83 with her family by her side. She was born September 16, 1935 in Denver, Colorado to Noah Leonard Proctor and Bertha Mary Sifferlen. She came to California when she was 5 years of age, later attended John Muir Junior High and Fremont High School in Los Angeles.

She married Norman Doty on May 4th 1952 in Los Angeles. She is survived by her husband Norman and their 4 children Marcelline, Cheryl, Rodney and Jeff. She is also survived by 9 grand children, 22 great grand children and 6 great great grand children.

She was very active at Cross Roads Church in Gardena, where she was a greeter, worked the Information Booth, and a member of Helping Hands (sewing circle). She was always willing to help when help was needed at social activities/functions.
Charmaine enjoyed doing many things in her life, such as making crafts and donating her time to different organizations such as Torrance Memorial Medical Center. She started volunteering in May 2001, 17 years ago. Her sewing group made “Walker Bags” and puppets to deliver to different units within the hospital. She ironed & packed them and was the Quality Control Person.  Once, they were going to stop making puppets and Mom said “NO!”, so the hospital continued to make them. In 2004, she was the Original Cuddler in the program, where she would cuddle the baby’s in the NIC UNIT.
She was a member of the “Beautification Committee” and the Historical Society in Lawndale, CA.  During the Christmas season she was involved in the Lawndale Christmas Basket Program, which helped over 100 families and 10 seniors to receive toys and food for the holidays.  She’s donated 14 gallons of her blood to the Red Cross in her lifetime. Every year she worked the Food Tent & Clothing Tent at “Stand Down” an organization helping homeless Veteran’s.  While there, she would sit & listen to the stories the Veteran’s shared for hours. Charmaine’s family, her church, and Auto Racing were her (3) biggest passions in life.
Charmaine was a true blessing to her church and family, a humanitarian, and great witness of helping other’s and the community.
She will be truly missed, remembered fondly, and will remain Forever in our Hearts.
