J. D. was born on June 30, 1929 in Gilmer, Texas, to Artemas Ward and Zela Florence Irons Odom and passed from this life on November 26, 2018 in Gilmer, Texas.
J. D. married Mable Jo Smith August 24, 1947 and she preceded him in death. From 1949-1954 they moved to Garland and he worked at Central Freight Lines in Dallas. They then moved back to Enon, J.D.’s home place, and went in the dairy business with Jeffie Odom. He also drove a milk truck on weekends for J. L. Ross. From mid 1954 to 1980 he worked at Trailmobile where he played on the men’s softball team. On May 12, 1971 they rolled the 50,000th trailer off the line. J.D. then worked for contractors that worked for Upshur Rural and with the help of Bill Davidson went to work for Upshur Rural from May 4, 1983-July 7, 1991. He retired at the age of 62 to help take care of the grandchildren.
J. D. is survived by his daughters and son in laws, Paula & Larry Davidson and Renesia & Henry Wilburn; grandchildren, Tina Gilley, Ashley & Stephen Sheffield and Amber Wilburn; and great granddaughter Jessica Maddox.
He is preceded in death by his wife Mable Jo Odom; his sister Vaurine Fenlaw; brothers, Dewie Odom and Ralph David Odom, and by his parents.
