Maxine M. Duranti

1917-2018

Maxine Duranti passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 30th after suffering a series of strokes 5 weeks earlier. Until then, this remarkable 100 year old lady was an independent force of nature and a delight to everyone who met her.

She was born in South Dakota in a house with gas lights and a hand pump in the kitchen for water. She married Louis Duranti in 1940. After WW2, Maxine and Louis settled in San Mateo and resided there for the next 60 years. Maxine was active with the Stanford Auxiliary for the Lucille Packard Foundation. She also worked as a Librarian at Borel Middle School for many years. Both were active in Rotary, The Elks and St. Bartholomew's Parish.

In 2004, tragedy struck when they lost their only Son, Tom Duranti, to a unexpected heart attack. When Lou died in 2005, they had been married nearly 65 years.

Maxine is survived by her Daughter ... and Son-In-Law ... and their Son ... Tom's children -... and her spouse ... along with Chris ... and his spouse ... As the youngest of 5 children in her family, Maxine also has many nieces and nephews and kept in contact with them until she passed away.

There will be a gravesite service for this loving and sweet lady as she is interred next to her husband, at St. John's Cemetery in San Mateo, on December 18th ... She will be forever in our hearts. Maxine has requested, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lucille Packard Foundation, supportLPCH.org.

Thomas Ralph Duranti

July 28, 1951-April 25, 2004

Tom died unexpectedly at home having just completed a bike ride on a sunny spring day. A remarkable father, loving husband, loyal friend, and avid runner and cyclist, Tom possessed a bountiful intellect, wicked sense of humor, keen social conscience and genuinely kind soul. Tom graduated from Junipero Serra High school in San Mateo California and earned a BS and MS in Chemical Engineering from UCLA. For the last eighteen years, Tom worked as an engineer at the Boeing Company.

Tom is survived by his wife ... children ... parents, Louis and Maxine Duranti of San Mateo, CA., sister Jean ... and nephew ... and several cousins in the Seattle/Tacoma area. Tom's death underscores the fragility of life and the need for all of us to focus less on what is immediate and more on what is important. So, build a tree house, roughhouse with your dog, tell everyone close to you that you love them, push yourself to your physical limit and turn your face to the sun and enjoy its warmth. Life is short-savor every minute of it.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Tom's memory to Casa Latina (220 Blanchard Seattle, WA. 98121) or the Downtown Emergency Service Center (507 3rd Ave. Seattle, WA. 98104 ). A celebration of Tom's life will be held on April 30th at Assumption Catholic Church, 3214 N.E. 62nd, Seattle, WA.
