A short biography in the "History of Mercer County" dated 1909, states that Samuel and Sarah Artherholt were born and reared in Bucks County, PA., and were married there. They lived for a few years in Northampton, Luzerne, and Union Counties before they moved to Trumbull Co., Ohio about 1815. In 1828 they moved to a farm in Pymatuning Township, Mercer Co., PA. They had a family of 4 sons and 3 daughters. Both Samuel and Sarah died upon the old homestead in Pymatuning Township and are buried in Rickert Cemetery, Pymatuning Township, Mercer Co., PA.

Samuel died at age 78 years, 7 months, and 5 days. Sarah died at ae 72 years, 2 months, and 3 days.

Note: some sources claim that Samuel Artherholt's wife was Sarah Bibighaus, sister of Rev. Henry Bibighaus. But the estate records of Elizabeth Sumstone prove that Sarah is her daughter. Likewise, the estate records of John Bibighaus, father of Rev. Henry Bibighaus, prove that Henry did not have a sister named Sarah. Samuel Artherholt and Henry Bibighaus were brothers-in-law because Henry Bibighaus married Maria Sumstone, sister of Sarah (Sumstone) Artherholt, and not because Samuel married Henry's sister Sarah who doesn't exist.
