Musician. Drummer and founding member of the rock band Rainbow. Originally a member of The Electric Elves, he remained with the group after they changed their name to The Elves, and then, finally, Elf, before being discovered in the late 60's by Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover. In 1975, Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, recruited Driscoll, Ronnie James Dio, Mickey Lee Soule, and Craig Gruber to form his new band, which he named Rainbow. Driscoll would be promptly kicked out of Rainbow after their debut album. It was rumored that his firing was due to his R&B influenced style of play, which did not sit well with Blackmore, he would be replaced by drummer Cozy Powell. He would go on to play in other bands, such as Dakota, and Star Castle, before forming Bible Black, with Gruber, future Blue Cheeer guitarist Duck McDonald, and Jeff Fenholt. Driscoll never made enough money after Rainbow to support himself, so he worked a day job, while moonlighting as a drummer. In June, 1987, he was found murdered in his home in Ithaca, New York, it was rumored that he had been hacked to death, and that his brutal murder was drug related, although there is no evidence to support this. To this day, his murder remains unsolved.
