Incredible wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and teacher for over 35 years

Janet Seamount passed away from lung and heart failure at 86 years surrounded by her loved ones.

Janet was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and teacher for over 35 years. She retired from Washington and McCabe Elementary schools in Mendota in 1999. Her family and students meant everything to her and that was evident in the love that always surrounded her, her family, and her classroom.

Janet is survived by her college sweetheart, husband of 65 years and caretaking angel, Dan Seamount who loved and cared for her till her very last breath; also by 7 kids and their spouses, 21 grand kids, and 8 great grand kids, and over 1000 students. She is also survived by students in India and the Philippines whose education she sponsored over the years.

Time and illness stole some of her strength and independence, but she never lost her humor and concern for the well being of others, especially young people. No matter how she felt, she was interested in their feelings and activities like music and robotics. We want to thank all of her family and friends who have shown love and support to her throughout the years.

Please think of Janet when you do the things she loved, like attend a play; listen to a budding musician; write a poem; say a truth in an outrageously funny, but kind manner; stay in a hotel; eat two hot fudge sundaes for dinner; are attentive to a child; do something out of your comfort zone like backpack with 7 children for 3 weeks; sing loudly on or off key; let your son and his friends paint your car with house paint; or remember her in any way that makes you laugh out loud. Knowing that she made someone feel valuable is what made her happy.

A memorial mass will be held at 10am on Saturday, March 19th at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 355 East Champlain Drive, Fresno. We would be grateful to any family, friends, and former students (and their families) who are able to join us in celebrating Janet's life.

We love you mom.
