WINSTON SALEM - Jeffrey Kyle Johnson, 52, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Wake Forest Baptist Health. Jeff was born on December 30, 1965 in Forsyth County to Kyle and Shirley Johnson. Jeff was a 1984 graduate of Gospel Light Christian School and a 1988 graduate from Hyles-Anderson College in Crown Point, IN, where he met his sweetheart, the love of his life, Stephanie Correll. They were married on July 13, 1990. He returned to his home town, church and school, where he taught at Gospel Light Christian School from 1990-1998. Jeff coached Varsity Soccer at Gospel Light for 16 years and led the team to 5 State Championships. In 1990, with only a handful of Spanish people, Jeff organized the Spanish Church at Gospel Light Baptist Church, which is now Iglesia Bautista Luz del Evangelio. He served as their Spanish pastor for 28 years and loved his Hispanic church family. In 2016, he received an Honorary Doctorate Degree at Puerto Rico Baptist College. In 2005, he started and directed, for 13 years, the Reformer’s Unanimous Program for the addicted at Gospel Light. During his 50 years of serving in the Bus Ministry at Gospel Light, Jeff worked as bus captain, driver and division leader. Jeff also extended his ministry by serving as chaplain for the Winston-Salem Dash and Marketplace Chaplains. In 1993, he became father to a beautiful daughter, Lauren, followed by a handsome son, Micah, in 1996.

Surviving are his loving wife of 28 years, Stephanie C. Johnson; one daughter, Lauren Johnson; one son, Micah Johnson both of the home; his parents, Kyle and Shirley Johnson of Rural Hall; parents-in-law, John & Kathie Correll of Boiling Spring Lakes; sister, Tara Kirby (Steve) and children, Mikayla and Kaleb of Walkertown; sister, Gina Miller (Chris) and children, Paris, Sydney, and Brooklyn of Walkertown; sister-in-law, Julie Eagle (Brian) and children, Landon, Levi, and Kaytlann of Texas; sister-in-law, Marjorie McLaughlin (Greg) of Kernersville.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Shumate, Dr. Ray Young, Dr. Dan Garlick, Brother Benjamin Burks and Rev. John Correll officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. There will be an opportunity to pay respects to Jeff from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 6, at Iglesia Bautista Luz del Evangelio, and the family will receive friends on Friday, December 7, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Gospel Light Baptist Church. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
