PORTSMOUTH - Annie L. Battle of the 700 block of Freedom Ave., died Feb. 23, 2009, in her residence. She was the widow of Preston H. Battle. Born in Southampton County, Virginia, she was a bus driver for Hampton Roads Transit. She was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church, Portsmouth.

She is survived by her son, Ulus L. Battle of Chesapeake; one sister, Hattie Tennessee of Baltimore; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Preston Jr. and Robert Stanley Battle; one sister and six brothers.

A funeral will be held at noon today in Olive Branch Baptist Church, by the Rev. Ernest Reid. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at 3717 Whitechapel Arch, Chesapeake, after the services. Corprew Funeral Home is in charge.
