SIGOURNEY - Mabel Irene Showman, age 94, of Sigourney, died Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at the Sigourney Care Center following a brief illness. Mabel was born June 11, 1908 in Sigourney, Iowa to James and Mamie (Reed) Ryder and received her education in country school in Keokuk County. On August 20, 1927 she married Brady Showman in Oskaloosa, Iowa. A lifelong resident of Keokuk County, Mabel was a mother, grandmother and homemaker who enjoyed fishing with her husband, Brady, her children and grandchildren. She also loved working in her flower gardens. Survivors include seven children: Mildred Hartson and husband Evard of Cedar Rapids, Virginia Glick and husband Bill of Lusk, Wyoming, David Showman and wife Helen of Hedrick, Dan Showman of Martinsburg, Donald Showman and wife Sharon of Bloomfield, Connie Messerschmitt and husband Gary of Hedrick, Thomas Showman and wife Kathy of Sedalia, Missouri; 44 grandchildren; 80 great grandchildren; 24 great great grandchildren and one great great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Brady; two daughters: Mary and Dorothy; four grandchildren: Susan, Donnie Robert, Bruce and Ron and 13 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2002 at the Reynolds - Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney with Rev. Frances Baumert officiating. Burial will be at Rayburn Cemetery in rural Hedrick. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2002 at the Reynolds - Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney, where the family will be present from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Sigourney Care Center.
