Helen Beatrice Carruthers was a veteran of World War II, who served as a Corporal in the Canadian Women's Army Corps. She married Burton James Cobham in West Branch, Kent County, New Brunswick, on the 23 June, 1945. After their marriage, Helen moved to Millidgeville, Saint John County, where she and her husband built their home. Helen was an avid quilter who achieved many awards. She was an honourary lifetime member of the Marco Polo Guild, lifetime member of the General Hospital Auxiliary, and was an honourary member of the Saint John Arts Association. Her quilts hang in Ottawa, in California, and in the pediatric unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital.
