J.C. Bass, 91, of Smithdale, MS., passed away on December 14, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 16, 2018 from 5 PM until 7 PM at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home of McComb with visitation again Monday from 10 AM until services at 11 AM at the funeral home. Rev. Cletus Moak and Jo Moulder will officiate and burial will be in Keith cemetery.
J.C. was born on November 12, 1927 in Smithdale, MS. He is the son of the late, Alex and Mada Westbrook Bass.
J.C. was a credit manager at International Harvester and later retired from Swift Chemicals Corp as a credit manager. He then went on to farming and raising cattle. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served aboard the USS Toledo as a radar operator, a graduate of Mississippi State and was a member of Tangipahoa Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Hilton Bass and Clifton Bass; six sisters, Rena Jean Hosto, Vera Lee Seals, Avis Laird, Neva Henderson, Eva Burris and Dorothy Graham.
He is survived by a his loving wife of sixty four years, Charline Ruby Barron Bass, two children, Deborah Lynn Petranek (Steve) and Clayton Allen Bass (Shannon); six grandchildren, Charles "Austin" Bass, Ashley Bass, Chandler Bass, Shea Bass, Sara Darragh (Colin) and Pat Petranek with numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Greg McCall, Randall Whittington, Burt Eldon Thorton, Jimmy Johnston, William Hawthorn, Austin Bass and Chandler Bass.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Randall and Don Moulder.
