Roger Ely Boon was born on March 16, 1940, at Oxford, NE to Lloyd and Leona (Ely) Boon. He departed from earthly existence on Monday, February 9, 1998, at the age of 57 years.
After living in Wichita, KS; he returned to Naponee in 1945, where he attended Naponee Schools, graduating from the Naponee High School. He then received a Degree in Business Administration from Kearney State College.
From 1964 to 1966 Roger served in the United States, Army and then was employed by the First. National Bank in Lincoln, NE.
On June 28, 1969, he was united in marriage with Margaret Weber, in Lincoln, NE. Two children were born to this union. Later they were divorced. -
In 1979 Roger moved to Franklin, NE, where he owned and operated the Ben Franklin Store, until ill health forced him to retire.
He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Franklin. For the last two years he had resided at the Nebraska Veterans Administration Home in. Grand Island, NE.
Roger was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd, who passed away on'May 25,1984
He is survived by his mother, Leona May Boon of Hastings, NE; Frederick Boon and, wife Heidi of Columbus, NE; a daughter, Gretchen. Boon of Hildreth, (attending school in Albuquerque, NM) a brother, Dr. Samuel Boon and wife, Patricia of Lincoln, NE; one grandchild, Kaleb Chad Boon, as well as many other relatives, many friends and acquaintances in Franklin, Napopee, Bloomington and the Veterans Administration Home in Grand Island, NE. . Memorials were designated for the Veterans Administration Home.
Services were held Friday, February 13, 1998, at Hutchins Funeral Chapel in Franklin, NE with Rev., R. L. Malchow officiating. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Alan Boon, Brian Boon, Tom Norman, Aaron Whyrick, John Haines and Roger Russell.
Music was provided by Bonnie Moore, soloist and Alan Huisman, organist.
