Wilson was born July 26, 1940, in Charleston, SC, son of the late Wilson Augustus Ham Sr. and Ruth Roberts Ham. He was a member of Christ Community Lutheran Church. Wilson was a graduate of Clemson University and held an MBA from The Citadel. He was retired from the Charleston Naval Weapons Station. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and retired from the United States Army Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Pessier Ham "Snookie"; two daughters: Tracey L. Riley (Vince) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Angela H. Newbold (Ron) of Hanahan, SC; son, Wilson A. Ham, III (Julie) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; four grandchildren: Shawn Riley, Emily Newbold, Sullivan Ham, and Jack Ham; sister, Margaret H. Harken of Charleston, SC; sister-in-law, Valynda L. Ham of North Charleston, SC; cousins, nieces and nephews.
