Enrique Maurice Vendrell was born in Los Angeles on June 23, 1929. He lived in Fullerton, CA, Maui, HI, Lake Almanor, CA and Eugene, OR. He served in the U.S. Army Band from 1948 to 1951. He was very proud when he earned his BA at Fullerton Junior College.

He was an accomplished musician and made music a priority in his life. He played saxophone, flute, clarinet and most any other instrument that he would pick up. He was in many bands before he started his own, The Apollo Sextet. They would practice every Wednesday night in his Fullerton home, much to the delight of his family. He was a lifetime member of the American Federation of Musicians.

He worked as an installer, repairman and a PBX repairman for the Pacific Bell Company in Orange County. He was a union man and a lifetime member of the Communication Workers of America. He retired at 55.

After retirement, Maurice and his beloved wife. Maureen, moved to “paradise,” Maui, Hawaii. They managed condos got to know the island and then decided to moveto “upcountry,” to Kula. They had a lovely house and enjoyed life with their daughter, Nancy and two grandsons, Jason and Riley.

The next chapter was more even more fun than living in Maui. They became lsnowbirds!” They bought a home in Lake Almanor, CA. They would spend their summer and falls on the Lake. They fished, visited with longtime friends and family, and when weather began to change, they would fly back to Maui to enjoy paradise again!

He had numerous hobbies. Cooking, gardening, working on his boat and cars, going to the lake with family to water ski and camping. He enjoyed entertaining at his home. Many pool parties were held and family and friends were always invited. He was best known for his caring heart and his terrific sense of humor, people always enjoyed spending time with Maurice,

He was a great Dad, loving husband and a devoted son and brother. Maurice Vendrell, 67, died Thursday, July 26, 1996 in Eugene, OR after a long battle with cancer. He was survived by his wife, Maureen; his daughter, Susan Vendrell-Wilbur; his son, Michael; and daughter, Nancy and 6 grandchildren.
