Edwin Earl Echols Sr. was the son of Albert Gordon and Clementine Virginia Fowler Echols. Earl was born in 1913 in Waco, Texas.

He was tagged with the nickname "Boob" as a small boy while trying to buy a cigar at a local drug store. The Cigar brand name was "Fighting Bob". He asked the man at the counter for a "Fighting Boob" and the name followed him for his entire life by all friends who were local to Walnut Springs, Texas, where he grew up.

Earl was raised around the restaurant business abd was a restaurant man at heart. During his life he operated the Walnut Springs City Cafe and The Circle Cafe in Meridan, Texas. During WWII he served in the Maritime Service as a cooking intructor for military personel.

In 1938 he married Frances Dean Brett, of Houston, and rasied two sons.
In 1960 he married LaFon Walton.
