To the family her long name was simply Granny. It would be a gross understatement to try and describe the influence she had on the lives of all who knew her. Her passions in life were God, family, and her devotion to the Baptist faith. She served as Sunday school superintendant at the local Baptist Church in Walnut Springs, Texas for almost 40 years. During that time she touched the lives of many children who continued to mention her in newspaper articles years after her passing.

She was born to Thomas H and Julia Culpepper Fowler in Eagle Springs, Texas in 1886. Her father, a civil war veteran, and native of Virginia left her with many stories she related to us as children. She told of attending Baptist camp meeting and sleeping in a covered wagon. She instilled every classic Bible story, known to man, in us while growing up.

On June 10, 1910 she married Albert Gordon Echols in McGregor, Texas and they remaind married until his passing 40 years later. Together while raising a family they ran the city cafe in Walnut Springs for many years. They had three sons:

Don Fowler 1912-1912
Edwin Earl 1913-1961
Ira Gordon 1917-2008

She passed from this life in the Clifton, Texas hospital on December 27, 1960, while reading a Christmas card from her Sunday school class. Her final words,"isn't that nice" were in reference to the card.
