Mary Elizabeth (Lobb) Bale was born on July 11, 1871 in Brush Creek, Kentucky, the daughter of George Washington "G W" Lobb (1843–1911) and Nancy Ellen (Walker) Lobb (1849–1925).

She was married as Bertha Lobb to Samuel Henry Bale (1881–1949) on April 11, 1901 in Green County, Kentucky, the son of Reuben Vaughn Bale (ca 1854–1917) and Amanda Ellen (Hines/Hinds) Bale (1852–1918). {It is unknown why her record of marriage has her name as Bertha, because no other public record has that listing.}

A member of Grace Avenue Baptist Church and living in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, she was 75 years old and married when she died at 936 Maxwell Avenue on January 21, 1947 of acute congestive heart failure.

Survivors included her husband, sons Claud Bale and Jesse Bale, daughters Mrs Nancy Lamb, Mrs J B Willis, Mrs A F Joslin, Mrs E H Robinson, Mrs J H Stafford and Mrs Arnold Demonbreun, brothers Harry Lobb, Ed Lobb, Tom Lobb and Charles Lobb, sisters Mrs O L McCubbin and Mrs W L McCubbin, seventeen grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Funeral Services were held on January 22nd at Grace Baptist Church, and burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery, Madison {city, not county}.

Much of the above is from her Death Certificate, with S H Bale of 1123 Stainback as the informant. Additional info is from her published obituary in THE TENNESSEAN on January 22, 1947.
