- Mr. Griffin R. Beatty, 80, of Aiken Street, died Friday, Sept. 6, 1996, at Orangeburg Regional Medical Center. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Springfield United Methodist Church, Springfield, with the Revs. Kermit Shrawder and Webb Belangia officiating. Burial will be in Springfield Cemetery. Mr. Beatty, a native of Stanley, N.C., was a graduate of North Carolina State University, and an Air Force veteran of World War II. He had retired from service as a pilot with the rank of lieutenant colonel, and had received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 0054, and was a member of Springfield United Methodist Church Survivors include his wife, Eloise Gleaton Beatty, Springfield; a son, G. Rhyne Beatty, Tiburon, Calif.; two daughters, Betty B. Counts, Aiken, and Barbara J. Beatty, Macon; a stepson, Fritz A. Gleaton, Springfield; two stepdaughters, Joann G. Phillips, Springfield, and Nancy G. Jackson, North; and 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be members of the Shaw Air Force Base Unit of the Air Force. Honorary pallbearers will be stewards of Springfield United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the Springfield Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 2, Springfield 29146.
