JOE BUCHTEL
Joe Buchtel, 85 of Elmer, passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 1995, at Kirksville Osteopathic Medical Center in Kirksville.
Born Apr. 2, 1909 in Neosho Rapids, Kansas, he was the son of Albert and Grace (Lewis) Buchtel. On Apr. 20, 1946 in Olathe, Kansas, he was united in marriage to Iris Griffin, who survives.
Also surviving are one brother, Hugh E. Buchtel of Hoyt, Kansas; one sister, Kathryn Lambert of Emporia, Kansas; three grandchildren, Richard Gene Houghton, Kathy Brown, and William Wayne Houghton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, one brother, and one daughter, Joanne Houghton.
Mr. Buchtel had been a resident of the Elmer community since 1946. He had been employed as a welder for the AT&SF Railroad bridge gang for over forty years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the Elmer Assembly of God Church.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 15, 1995 at the Elliot Funeral Home in Atlanta. Burial was in the Elmer Cemetery.
