On August 8, 1939, Apollonia and Sergeant Pedro Birco gave birth to their youngest son, Tomasito A. Birco. He was also known as Tom, Tommy, Tomat. He was born and raised in Bayombong, Philippines with his siblings Simeon, Raymunda, Leoncio, Lolita, Milagros, Elvira, Leonarda, and Mary. Their father Sergeant Pedro Birco served for the United States Army. He fought in World War II and died when Tom was about 2 years old.

Tom graduated at St Mary’s High School in Bayombong and continued to Far Eastern University in Manila and earned his Master’s degree in accounting.

Tom and Zeny met in Manila. They married on September 10, 1966 in Bayombong. They had two children born in the Philippines, Nick and Christine. Tom left to the United States in 1969 to seek a better life for his family. After settling in San Francisco, Tom and Zeny gave birth to their youngest daughter Holly.

Tom found a career with the State of California as a DMV examiner. After 31 years, Tom retired from the Department of Motor Vehicle and travelled to many places with his wife and friends. His last trip was to the Holy Land.

In the 1980’s, Tom was one of the co-founders of the Tayo Tayo Club. Tayo Tayo meaning “We We”. This club was formed amongst family and close friends. He loved being a part of the Tayo Tayo. He was also co-founder of the Santo Nino of Prague.

In 2006, Tom lost his only son, Officer Nick Birco when he died in the line of duty for the SFPD.

Tom was a very kind and generous man, who loved his family and loved to help people. He was a loyal friend who was always supportive. He was a hard worker and achieved his American dream.

Tomasito is survived by his loving wife Zeny of 52 years, his daughters Christine and Holly, son in laws Mike Bryant and Aaron Pruett, grandchildren Kaela and her husband Sharod Swanson, Phillip and his wife Pearl, Anthony, Nicki and AJ, his great grandchildren, Sharod Jr., Ryden, and Olivia, his sister Mary, and many nieces and nephews.
