Susan M. Carreon, 71, of Grand Island passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, with her loving family at her side.
Celebration of Life Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Cathedral with the Rev. James Golka officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. To honor Susan’s love of life, please wear pastel-colored clothes.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday with a 7 p.m. rosary at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Susan was born March 30, 1947, at Chapman, the daughter of Leonard and Agnes (Stenka) Grudzinski. She was raised on a farm near Chapman and graduated from Phillips High School. She was united in marriage to Manuel Carreon on April 10, 1972. They made their home in Grand Island.
Susan loved being a wife, mom and grandma. She assisted many immigrants in becoming legalized citizens. She worked as a certified legal translator and taught at the Central Nebraska Council on Alcoholism. Some of her enjoyments included sewing, crafts and cooking. Most of all, she loved living her faith by helping others.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Manuel; their daughters, Lisa (Bruce) Berck and Maria (Genovevo) Morales, both of Grand Island; grandchildren, Merissa (Reggie), Molley, Angelica (Max), Miranda and Abraham; great-grandchildren, Caedyn, Bentlee and Owen; brothers, Leonard (Pat) Grudzinski, Jr. of Grand Island and Timothy (Chris) Grudzinski of Omaha; sister, LeAnn (Jeff) Olsen of Lincoln; in-laws, Romulo (Lola) Fierro, Rutilo (Imeldia) Fierro, Hermenegildo Fierro and Maximo (Luz) Fierro; and many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Carreon in 2008; her parents; brothers, Jim and Donald Grudzinski; and sister, Elizabeth Edwards.
Memorials are suggested to the family for future designations.
