Robert Cawtheray was born in 1755 in Yorkshire. He was a Schoolmaster in the Brotherton area. He married Ann Smith on 10 August 1778 in Ledsham, Yorkshire. He then married Mary Fletcher and they had six children together. He died in 1799 in Brotherton, Yorkshire, at the age of 44, and was buried in St Edward the Confessor churchyard.
