October 1, 1940 – March 7, 2018
WENDELL – Joseph Willard Bailey, 77, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday. He was born in Wilson County to the late Elefton & Dixie Brewer Bailey. He loved playing guitar. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Bailey.
He is survived by his wife & best friend of 58 years, Catherine Wood Bailey of the home; children, Cathy Sasser (Fiancé, Jay Peele) of Wendell, Joey Bailey (Fiancé, Charlene Mills) of Zebulon, Natalie Shirely of Wendell; siblings, Johnny Bailey (Mazie) of Middlesex, Shirley Creech of Fremont; grandchildren, Chris Wood, Kim Jeffreys (Jamie), Brandon Carroll (Julie), Heather Shirely; great-grandchildren, Cameron Wood & Avery Carroll.
Flowers are welcomed or memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Funeral 11 a.m. Saturday, Baptist Tabernacle Church with visitation from 10-11 a.m., prior to the service and other times at the home. Burial will follow at Zebulon Town Cemetery.
