John attended Portland schools and enlisted in the Army upon graduation. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam and retired from the service as an SP5.
He married Jean (Roberts) on Dec. 12, 1968 and together, raised four children while living on base at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. before returning home to Maine. He was a true patriot and proudly served the United States.
In his later working years, John served in the Army Reserves and Army National Guard and was actively involved in the Veterans Administration. In his spare time, John enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, and spending time with family. His grandchildren who knew him as, "Papa", could entrust in him to be their taxi whenever they needed it. He truly was the backbone of his family and will be missed by those close to him.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Jean (Roberts) Grimaldi. He is survived by his four children, Julie Pace and her husband Timothy of Windham, Tammy Harmon and her husband Snoopy of Portland, John Grimaldi Jr. and his wife Nikki of Eastport, and Eleanor Grimaldi of Windham; sister, Margo Hirtle of Gorham; grandson, John Michael Grimaldi III along with 20 other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
