Son of Thorne and Mary (Lord) Deuel. Charles' sister, Dr. Elizabeth L. Deuel, was second woman physician to practice in Detroit. Charles went to Olivet College in Michigan and graduated from Mayhew's Business College. He worked for the Michigan Central Railway for a few years. He established a sheetmetal works business and opened a factory in 1907 to manufacture sheetmetal. On 6 Oct 1881, he married Miss Lillias Walker of Detroit, who died 14 Jan 1892 leaving son, Arthur and daughter, Margaret. He married again on 2 Sep 1896 to Miss Jane M. Miller of Grand Rapids, MI, a native of Scotland.
