Of Ra'anana, Israel, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at the age of 78. Born to Benjamin and Rose Bran, Sam grew up in Washington, DC, graduating from Coolidge High School in 1952, and then served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman in Germany. After a couple of years at American University, he co-owned and operated a foreign used car business in Arlington, Virginia. Afterwards, Sam worked in management and sales in various auto dealerships in Maryland, including several large dealerships along Route 40 near Baltimore (Monarch Lincoln Mercury, Major Motors, Russell Toyota and Nationwide Motors), and worked in the construction business. Sam retired in the 1990s.

Sam fulfilled a longstanding wish, becoming a dual U.S. and Israeli citizen, and divided his time between Ocean City, MD and Israel. Sam moved to Israel permanently several years ago. Sam was buried in Ra'anana, Israel on September 12. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date for friends and family. Donations or tzedakah may be made in his name to the Jewish Foundation for Group Homes, 1500 East Jefferson Street, Rockville, MD 20852.
