Sister Anna John entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet on September 15, 1945, was received into the novitiate on March 19, 1946 and made her final profession of vows on August 15, 1951. She also received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Fontbonne College in 1951.

For more than 30 years, Sister Anna John served in education, beginning at Sts. John & James Grade School in Ferguson in 1948. In the 1950s, she taught at St. Rose of Lima Grade School in Houston, Texas; Most Holy Rosary and St. Roch Grade Schools in St. Louis; and St. James Grade School in Denver, Colorado.

In 1960, Sister Anna John was principal and teacher at St. Patrick Grade School in Rolla, Missouri for three years. She then was principal at Visitation Grade School in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1965, she returned to St. James Grade School in Denver as a teacher.

Four years later, Sr Anna John came back to Missouri and served at St. Gregory Grade School in St. Ann. She taught junior high from 1969 to 1971 and was then principal and a teacher until 1973. She then taught for the next two years at St. Roch Grade School in St. Louis.

In 1976, she headed south and went on sabbatical at St. Joseph Grade School in Marietta, Georgia. Remaining in Georgia, Sister Anna John went on to serve as secretary for one year at St. Mary on the Hill School in Augusta and four years at the Village of St. Joseph in Atlanta.

Sister Anna John returned once again to her hometown of St. Louis in 1983. For the next 23 years, she served her CSJ community as the data controller/processor at the St. Louis Provincial House. She retired in 2006.

Since 2011, she resided at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis where she carried out her ministry of prayer and presence.

Funeral Mass was celebrated at Nazareth Living Center Chapel, South St. Louis County, Mo.
