Quintin L. Holtz, 82, passed away Monday, January 7, 2019 at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Christ Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. Family will be present to greet friends 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls. Memorial donations will be directed to Sioux Falls Lutheran School.
Quintin Lorenz Holtz was born on October 25, 1936 to John F. and Minnie (Feyerherm) Holtz at his home in rural Beemer, NE. He was baptized at his home. Quintin was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Beemer on March 18, 1951 during a snow storm and on his mother’s birthday. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School for eight years, then graduated from Beemer High School in May of 1955.
Following high school, Quintin was drafted into the United States Navy in November of 1955. He served two years aboard the USS Roanoke and USS St. Paul. Quintin was honorably discharged in 1957.
Quintin was united in marriage with Genevieve “Genny” Toelle on June 28, 1959 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Beemer. Quintin and Genny raised five children.
Quintin worked for Hooper Holmes Bureau, Inc. for over 30-years as an inspector, branch manager and claims specialist in Omaha, NE, Lincoln, NE and Sioux Falls, SD. He was promoted to Regional Vice President in 1987. Quintin worked for a short time in retail sales and as a financial planner. He then worked for 18-years for the Sioux Falls School District until his retirement in 2012.
Quintin has been a member of Christ Lutheran Church since 1962. He served as Congregation President, Elder, Trustee, Secretary, and Financial Secretary. He also ushered for many years, sang in the choir and was a member of the Fellowship Club.
Quintin enjoyed fishing, gardening, yardwork, mowing and blowing snow. He also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Above all he loved spending time with his family.
Grateful for having shared his life are his five children: Jay (Jodie) Holtz, Sioux Falls, SD, Grant (Robin) Holtz, Worthing, SD, Lori Lays, Manitou Springs, CO, Shelly (Tom) Meier, Savage, MN and Amy (Jerry) Hauff, Sioux Falls, SD; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; two brothers: John Lee Holtz, Littleton, CO, Milton (Alice) Holtz, Westboro, MO; and many more family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve “Genny” Holtz on September 25, 2016; his parents: John F. and Minnie Holtz; two brothers, Roland and Arlin Holtz; three sisters: Rosalie Ott, Irma Bergt, Lillian Adkins; three sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; two nieces, one nephew, and two step-nephews.
