Norma Kent Jenkins Hessler was born Nov. 19, 1921 in Gary, Indiana to Hugo & Anna Kent, and passed away December 19, 2018 in Crown Point, Indiana peacefully in her sleep.

She graduated from Wheeler High School in 1939. After high school, she attended South Bend College of Commerce for Business Stenographic and Secretarial work. Her first job was at Gary Heat Light and Water Company, later changed to Northern Indiana Public Service (NIPSCO) from 1941-1945. She then worked for United Airlines at Chicago Municipal Airport (now Midway) from 1945-1946. She married Edward Samuel Jenkins on October 19, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Valparaiso, Indiana. The newly married couple moved to Jackson, Michigan (then Kalamazoo in 1950, to Dearborn in 1959 & Lansing in 1971) raising their family along the way – children: David (Laura) of St. John, IN, Karl (Cyndee) of Scottsdale, AZ, Janine (Jack) Swanson of Santiago, Chile, Paul (deceased - 1976) Lisa (Robert) Krupiarz of LaGrange, IL and Heidi (Doug) Glowacki of Avon, CT.

After Ed’s death in 1976, Norma moved to Dearborn, MI and joined a ministry team at Lutheran Bible Translators, spending 2 years in Sierra Leone, West Africa. Upon her return in 1980, she resumed an active life of ministry at Guardian Lutheran Church in Dearborn as well as enjoying her large family, traveling, and (always) staying in great shape via exercise and activities of all sorts. She met William Hessler in a dance class and they married in 1991 in Dearborn, enjoying 21 wonderful years together. Bill preceded her in death in 2012. Norma and her family adopted Bill’s wonderful family as their own: William Jr (Sharon) of Auburn, NE, Patty (Jim) Grezlik of Northville, MI and Mary Ann (Tom) Simmons of Deckerville, MI. Norma was blessed with 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren from her marriages.
