Richard Earl Abbey, 72, of Quincy, IL, died at 6:03 a.m. on January 5, 2019, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Funeral service will be Saturday, January 12, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Melva Johnson officiating.

Richard was born on February 15, 1946, in Hunnewell, MO, the son of Everett and Mattie Scott Abbey. He married Laura Bias, and she survives.

His parents; numerous brothers and sisters; an infant daughter, LaTasha; a son, Lewis Bassett; and three grandchildren preceded him in death.

He is survived by five sons, Richard Lee (Stacey) Abbey, Earl Richard Abbey, Derrick (Amy) Allison, Richard (Heather) Bias and Antwyon (Lynn) Bias; six daughters, Mary (Keith) Abbey, Jaynette Abbey, Laruetta Bassett, Denise (Kevin) Smith, Richelle Bias, Shameka (Frank a companion) Bias and Aidreanna Abbey; a stepson, Andre Taylor; a stepdaughter, Evie Burk; three brothers, Thomas (Twonda) Abbey, Mark Keith (Tylette) Abbey and Sam Abbey; six sisters, Viola Abbey, Barbara Stemmons, Sylvia Abbey, Diana Abbey, Tonya Mosley and Charlene (Steve) Stapleton; 47 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.

Richard worked at Alter Metal Recycling as a crane operator for 30 years, retiring in 1995.
He loved to go fishing with bait he had made for himself
