She learned German in college to bolster her mathematics degree not knowing she would marry her late husband William, a Swiss German. Balancing her technical side, she gained a love for the outdoors through her camping experiences at Quinibeck Camps in Vermont. Joan was a pioneering woman as a software programmer in the late 1950's for Standard Oil of California. Later, after raising two sons while living in Hong Kong and France, Joan worked for many years with Fleet Trust Company first as a Trust Officer and then as an Assistant VP for New Business Development. Joan ultimately worked closer to the field of her true passion, medicine, as Director of Planned Giving at Rochester General Hospital where she was thrilled to support the needs of the hospital. In fact, she loved her job there so much that she was still reticent to retire well into her 70's. Joan's mother instilled in her a lifelong love of travel and she and her husband traveled the world to experience new places at every opportunity. Joan will be remembered most as an amazing and generous caregiver to her family, friends, colleagues, and clients. She was the quintessential host greeting everyone with an open heart and a beautiful smile.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday, at 10 am, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 44 Main Street, Bloomfield. Interment will be in Boughton Hill Cemetery, Victor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rochester Regional Health Foundation, Riedman Campus, 100 Kings Highway South, Suite 2300, Rochester, New York 14617.
