The son of Thomas Mason Ashton and Hannah Mossop, he was Christened June 15th, 1862 at Deeping-Fen, Lincolnshire. He married Agnes Mitchell in the 3rd Quarter of 1889 in the Cockermouth Registration District of Cumbria (Cumberland).
