Alice was the daughter of Harry and Ina Belle (Russell) Ranney. Alice attended a one-room school in North Concord for eight grades, then went to high school in Concord. She attended Lyndon Normal School for two years in the late twenties. She later earned a bachelor of science degree. She taught school for 43 years. She kept a list of all of her students and kept in touch with many of them. She married Clyde Bugbee McGinnis on June 15, 1931.
