Delilah Cook Masden was born near Salem, Iowa March 3, 1843, and died April 15, 1911 at 7:30 p.m. aged 68 years, 1 month, 12 days.
She was united in marriage with Algern Masden March 10 , 1864, who survives her. She leaves four children, Anna, wife of Frank DeLashmutt of LaPlata, Mo.; Lillie, wife of James Mosher of Salem, Iowa; Frank who married Amy Emerson and lives in Fairfield; Algern Jr., who married Minnie Britton and lives at the old home; and 10 grandchildren. She also leaves two brothers, William of St. Paul, Minn. and Samuel of Colorado Spring's, Colo. She was a birthright member of Friends Church of which she was a faithful and consistent member.
Hers was a useful active life. In her death her husband and children have suffered irreparable loss which is most keenly felt. For many weeks past Mrs. Masden has been a great sufferer, which she bore with Christian fortitude, ready and willing to go if it was the Lord's will. Her desire to live was that she might be of help to her loved ones.
She was privileged to have all her children with her in her last days and all her grandchildren visited her within the past few weeks. To all she gave the message "Be good." Her brother William was also with her during the last week of her illness. To the sick and afflicted she was ever a faithful friend and the needy never went empty handed from her door.
Funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. F. C. Lebart, Tuesday, April 18, at eleven o'clock at the Friends church. He spoke from the text "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them." Rev. 14:13.
