Gary Francis Evans, age 79 of Crofton, Nebraska died on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Avera Sister James Nursing Home in Yankton after being on Hospice care.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton with the Rev. Gary Kimm officiating. Burial will be at the Crofton City cemetery with military rites by the Crofton American Legion Post #128. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton. Visitation will continue on Wednesday one hour prior to services.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Wiebelhaus, Herman Wiebelhaus, Danny Sage, Rick Coughlin, Tom Hattig, and Bob Logue. Honorary pallbearers will be the Coffee Crew.
Gary Francis Evans was born on February 15, 1939 in Sioux City, Iowa to Ralph and Eleanor (Feelhaver) Evans. He attended grade school at the country school that his mother taught at east of Hartington. Gary then attended the Hartington Public School. He joined the United States Air Force on March 20, 1956 and served until March 17, 1960. He attended Aircraft Maintenance School and A & E School in Shepherd Field, Texas. Gary married Donna Kay Sage on April 16, 1967 in Hartington, Nebraska. From this union three children were born, Todd, Troy, and Tami. He and Donna moved into Crofton in 1969. Gary worked several jobs before he spent 35 years at Kolberg Manufacturing where he began as a welder, then moved to the parts room and the shop purchasing department.
Gary was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington, the National Rifle Association, and was the assistant Scout Master for nine years. He was one of the first graduating EMT's for Crofton. Gary was a Storm Watcher for around seven years in Crofton and also a Storm Watcher for Yankton for 40 years.
Gary is survived by his three children and their spouses, Todd (Jennifer) Evans of Spring Valley, MN, Troy (Amy) Evans of Ponca, Tami (Chris) Logue of Ponca; eight grandchildren (Todd's) - Katlyn, Allyson, Tyler and Jacob Evans, (Troy's) Gracen & Garrison Evans, (Tami's) Michael & Matthew Logue; and special friend Jeanie Langemeier of Crofton, NE.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents Ralph & Eleanor Evans; wife Donna Kay on May 30, 2008 at the age of 63.
