He spent most of his childhood years in Houlton and graduated from Houlton High School and later attended a local college. Arnold served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He married Patricia Daigle and they would share over fifty years of marriage until her passing in 2011. He worked at A.E. Staley and retired as a foreman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren most of all.
He is survived by four children: Cathy Manning and her husband Donnie of North Carolina, Vicki Donahue and her husband Richard of Ludlow, Anthony Gonya of Houlton, Dawn Vose and her significant other Tim DeVoe of Houlton, two grandchildren whom he raised: Melanie Drew and her husband Mark of New Limerick, Steven Gonya and his significant other Casey Henderson of Houlton, as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also leaves behind two brothers: Ernest Gonya of Houlton, Joseph Gonya and his wife Diane of Monticello, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife Patricia he was predeceased by a son Jonathan Gonya, three brothers: Ronald, Donald, and Richard Gonya, and two sisters: Isbel and Myrtle.
A graveside service with military honors took place Saint Mary’s Cemetery.
