"Tuppaí" was a Native American born at ranchería Ensén in what is now Monterey County, California, about 1764. He was the son of Josefa de Neve (1740, bap. Feb. 4, 1780 SC Baptism 00605-bur. Nov. 7, 1801 SC Death 01393). "Tuppaí" assumed his Christian name, Estanislao José, upon his baptism at Mission San Carlos (Carmel) on June 28, 1777 (SC Baptism 00459). He married (1) neophyte Francisca María at Carmel mission on May 23, 1780 (SC Marriage 000158). After Francisca was killed by bear he married (2) neophyte Lea María "Guimes" (SC Baptism 01719) at Carmel mission on May 16, 1793 (SC Marriage 00472). Estanislao died at Carmel Mission and was buried in the mission cemetery on November 11, 1808 (SC Death 01836).
