Head of Department of Speech, Radio and Dramatics at Michigan State College in 1949. In 1958 he became head of the Department of Communication Skills at Michigan State University. He served as President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce 1948-1949, and on board of directors 1949-1950. He was the Republican nominee for Michigan auditor general. In 1958 and 1960 he was Republican nominee for Governor of Michigan. From 1953 - 1963 he was Michigan Chairman of the March of Dimes. In 1938 he married Edith Harriet Clark of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
