During the 1915 Armenian Genocide all family members of Mkrtich (Mekerdich) Derderian vanished and he fled Western Armenia and settled in Hamadan, Iran.
He married Pergrouhi (Parkoohi) Yeghiayan Alvandi and they had eight children, five sons by names Zaven, Vigen, Karo, Hrand, Vahe and three daughters Juliet, Helen and Armenouhi "Armine."
Because of the carpet business in 1933 the family moved from Hamadan to Arak in Markazi province. In 1934 they went to Borujerd in Lorestan province where two years later at age of 39 Mkrtich died from pneumonia.
According to the book of memoirs "My brother Vigen" by Karapet "Karo" Derderian, their father Mkrtich Derderian was buried in the ravine by the nameless church in the city of Malayer in Hamadan province, on their way to the city of Maragheh in East Azerbaijan province, Iran.
During World War II Derderian family relocated from Maragheh to Tabriz in East Azerbaijan province, Iran.
In the early 1950s some of Derderian siblings moved to the capital of Iran city of Tehran.
