Wanda Mae Morris, 70, Sterling and formerly of Lindale, Texas died early Sunday morning at her home.
Born Tuesday November 23, 1948 in Mason City, Iowa she was the daughter of the late Harry Wayne and Iva Wise Flynn. Wanda graduated from Mason City High School in 1967. With an adventurous soul and ready to set the world on fire she traveled by Continental Trailway bus to Denton, Texas where she attended Texas Women's University graduating in 1971 with a degree in Therapeutic Recreation Psychology/Sociology. In 1990 she received her Licensed Bachelor of Social Work.
Wanda spent her professional career working with children and youth for about 15 years with MHMR /Andrew Center as family services coordinator specializing in early childhood intervention. She then worked at Trinity Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler, Texas serving as a maternal child social worker for 20 years. Wanda leaves a work legacy in which she impacted many lives for good. So often people would say " I cannot tell you what Wanda meant to me."
Wanda was a founding mother for the Children's Park in Tyler.
She volunteered for ARC (association for retarded citizens), which included Special Olympics, Walk a Mile for a Special Child, and the annual Crystal Ball. Wanda was also instrumental in the start of Pediatric Palliative Care with Hospice of East Texas.
She was a long-time, active and beloved member of Friendly Baptist Church in Tyler where she served as Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir.
Wanda retired in 2015 and moved to Pennsylvania to be a near grandma and was able to attend the numerous activities of her granddaughters. While in Pennsylvania she supported the Boys and Girls Club in Scranton by volunteering with various fund raising events. She attended Parker Hill Church and was involved with a ladies Bible Study group.
Wanda is survived by three children, Jason Wiggins of Moscow, Coleman Wiggins of Sterling, and Elizabeth Yarbrough and her husband Adam of Denton, Texas and four precious granddaughters; Emma Wiggins, Abby Wiggins, Molly Wiggins and Davi Yarbrough. She is also survived by many cousins.
Wanda's family would like their appreciation known for their cousins, Georgia and Juhl, for providing beautiful and devoted end of life care. We could not have done it without you.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday from 4PM-7PM in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore.
A memorial service will be held Sunday February 17th at 2PM in Friendly Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Children Are A Gift Foundation of Tyler, Texas, Friendly Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas, or the Boys and Girls Club of North East Pennsylvania.
