Cecile “Juanita” Carpenter McCutchen

TUSCALOOSA - Juanita gained her wings on January 15, 2019 after an extended illness in Tuscaloosa. She will be laid to rest beside her loving husband Jack, at Memory Hill gardens, on Saturday, January 19, 2019. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. in the chapel.

She was born on November 21, 1932 to Valcus and Ethel Carpenter in Reform Alabama. She was affectionately known as Nene.

At the age of 18, she met a charmer at Tuscaloosa High school named Jack Lee McCutchen. It was love at first sight. For the next 21 years they started a family and travelled the United States and Europe. Each area brought out her extraordinary culinary talents. She never let anyone leave her home without a tummy full of her delicious food. It was her love language. They retired to Tuscaloosa in 1971 and renovated a Queen Anne Victorian home. She and her mother owned and operated the Pioneer Store Antiques in Tuscaloosa for many years. Her interest and talents included making ceramics, buying, collecting and selling antiques, yard work and gardening. One thing that she most definitely had was a big heart for people on the fringes. She and Jack took in foster kids and opened their home and hearts to many in need. She was a loving mother and grandmother with a quick wit. She was saved and baptized at the age of 17, so we know that she is walking with Jesus Christ at this very moment.

She was preceded in death by her parents Valcus and Ethel Carpenter; her brothers, Buford and Junior Carpenter; baby sister, Martha; and her loving husband, Jack.

She is survived by her son, Dooley McCutchen; daughter, Jann McCutchen Simpson (Donnie); granddaughter, Lindsey McCutchen; grandson, Conor McCutchen; granddaughter, Tara Rachels ( Michael); great- grandchildren, Mason Roy, Cayden, Avaleigh and Cody Rachels; brothers, Marshall Carpenter, Sr. (Judy), Gene Carpenter (Brenda); sister, Adell Morrison; and lots of nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Special friends Stacy Hewitt and Kim Coe, who helped and loved her over the years and West Alabama Hospice.

Nene will be forever missed deeply, but never forgotten.

Pallbearers will be Rodney Jones, Marshall Carpenter Jr., Jonathan Seay, Michael Rachels, Jacob Summers and Wayne Brown.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
