Sonja Anastasia ' Suzanna' Kamesch was born at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois on May 18, 1898. Her mother was Anna and her father's name was Henri Kamesch. She had at least six siblings: Joseph, Marjorie, Henry, Anna, Helen and Henrietta Kamesch. Although Sonja was her given name, she first went by Sunnie and later by Suzanna. By 1920, Henry Kamesch was no longer living and those who were old enough were working in a fruit store, except Marjorie, who was a clerk in a dry-goods store. The family was living in a home at 1953 West Lunt Avenue in Chicago.

Suzanna married Nicholas Wilwers in Chicago on April 7, 1923 at a Catholic Church in Chicago. They lived in a two-story home at 2829 West Sherwin Avenue in West Rogers Park in Chicago. Suzanna and Nicholas had seven children: Maryann, Arthur, Dolores, Henrietta, Rose, Joseph and William Wilwers. All of the children except Joseph survived to adulthood.

Both Nicholas and Suzanna are laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie, Illinois.
