Vauna S. Jacobsen
Vauna Smith Jacobsen slipped quietly into eternity early in the morning of Feb. 11, 2001.
Vauna, the oldest of seven children of Solomon Elias and Mary Edith Miller Smith, was born in Drapper, Utah, May 19, 1901. She graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Secondary Education and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omego and Phi Kappa Phi. Vauna married her high school sweetheart, A. Clifton Jacobsen, June 24, 1925 in the Salt Lake Temple. Vauna served as stake Relief Society president, as a member of the Primary General Board, and at age 81, she was called as Ward Relief Society president. She was active in Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and the Fine Art Club.
She is survived by her two children, Alan C. Jacobsen and Dwan Jacobsen Young, both of Salt Lake City. She is also survived by her two younger siblings, Ruth Smith Sperry and Dr. Paul W. Smith, seven living grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Vauna was always firm and resolute in her conviction that families can be together forever.
As we bid this temporary farewell, Vauna will be remembered by family and friends at a viewing Friday evening at Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 So. Highland Dr. from 6-8 p.m. and two hours before the service at Hawrhorne Ward, 808 E. Roosevelt Ave, (1460 SO.) Salt Lake City, followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 12 noon. Interment will be at Memorial Estates, 3115 E. 7800 S.
In honor of Vauna, contributions to Primary children's Medical Center would be appreciated. The family wishes to express deepest thanks to the capable staff at Garden Terrace for their tender loving care.
