Daughter of Lyman and Cornelia (Barrows) Bartlett. Went to Anatolia, Turkey with her missionary parents in 1867. Studied at Mt. Holyoke Seminary and Wellesley College (1880-1881). Graduated in 1884 from the Normal School in Minneapolis. Returned to Smyrna to join her parents, opening the first kindergarten school in Turkey. Returned in 1904 to the US with her widowed father settling in California.
