A hero passed away, Chief Herbert Beecham, 95, WWII Veteran, on Friday, January 25, 2019. He proudly served his country for 22 ½ years in the United States Navy from January 9, 1942 until his honorable discharge on July 31, 1965.

He had spent the last two years in Schnepp’s Senior Care and Rehab Center in St. Louis where he was affectionately known to many as "Sailor".

Herbert was the son of George and Harriett (Campbell) Beecham. He married Shirley Jean Burns on June 29, 1944 in Corpus Christi, Texas and they enjoyed 65 years together, before her passing in 2009. He enjoyed traveling, gambling and was an excellent cook.

He was a member of the Hemlock VFW Post 1703, the D.A.V. and American Legion.

Herbert is survived by two daughters, Renee Wynes of Eureka, MT, Karen Maleski of Alma; three grandchildren, Terry (Kim) Wynes of Bothell, WA, Angela Maleski of Troy, NY, Andrew (Holly) Maleski of Cornelius, NC, two great-grandchildren, Katie and Samuel Wynes of Bothell, WA. Also, numerous family members by choice all over the United States and around the World.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Shirley, sons-in-law, Burt Wynes and Daniel Maleski, two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Nativity of the Lord Parish, St. Louis with Fr. Nate Harburg officiating. Interment followed in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Saginaw.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Great Lakes Hospice.
