Obituary for Mrs. Annie Marie Andrews Tompkins
Ann A. Tompkins, age 77, of Mt Juliet, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019. Annie was born on December 16, 1941 in Marietta, MS, to the late Millard F. Andrews and Alice Quay Andrews.
Mrs. Tompkins graduated from Sheffield , AL High School in 1960 and then business college in 1961. After Business College, she went to work at NASA in Huntsville, AL and then TVA in the Muscle Shoals, AL area. In 1972 she moved to Nashville and went to work as a statistician with the TN Department of Employment Security. Annie was a lifelong fan of Elvis Presley and was very proud of the fact that she got to meet Elvis as a teenager.
She met and married her third husband of 31 years, Joel, while at work. Shortly after their marriage they bought an R.V. and joined the Music City Sams R.V. Club and began to travel extensively.
Mrs. Tompkins, as well as her husband retired from the Department of Employment Security in 1996 and began to travel throughout the U.S., eventually visiting 44 of the 48 lower states. During this same time they began to spend the winter in south Texas, eventually buying a winter home there. They usually planned to spend at least 3 months there leaving right after Christmas.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Arthur.
She is survived by her husband, Joel Tompkins; two sons, Bobby McGlocklin and Chris(Dawn) Blagburn; daughter Tonya (Mark) Hargis; grandchildren Brian Blagburn, Rachel Blagburn, Brianna McGlocklin and Sarah Gaitskill.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 30, 4 PM until 8 PM at Spring Hill Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 31, at 2 PM at the historic Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville.
