Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Brother John O'Dell officiating. Burial will be in Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney.
Mrs. McDowell was born May 16, 1911, in the area known as "Ridge" in Wayne County, the daughter of James and Melvina (Coplea) Varner. She married Russell McDowell on September 27, 1927. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1991.
She was a homemaker and a member of Noble Christian Church in Noble.
Mrs. McDowell is survived by her daughter, Norma Shearer and her husband, Don, of Centennial, Colo.; son, Jerry McDowell and his wife, Ruth Ann, of Olney; six grandsons; nine great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Hazel McDowell Baker; two brothers and one sister.
