In the book, The Doty-Doten Family in America: descendants of Edward Doty, an Emigrant By The Mayflower, by Ethan Allen Doty, pub. 1897, Joseph Shepard Doty is person #9758. His entry, page 709:


9758. JOSEPH SHEPARD DOTY, son of Samuel Doth and Anna Shepard, born Chatham, N.Y. , Dec 4, 1794; married 1st, there Tryphena Eaton, born there, dau of Abel Eaton, and early settle of Chatham, also captain of militia, and Azuba Hurd of Woodbury, Ct. Abel Eaton was direct descendent from John and Abigail Eaton, who came from Dover, England about 1635 and settled at Watertown, Mass., but removel about 1637 to Dedham, Mass., where the senior branch of the family still live. She died Rochester, N.Y., 1825-6. Soon after her death he moved to Indiana, his dau Mary, remaining in the Eaton family of Troy, N.Y. He married 2nd Elizabeth Mix. He died Mishawaka, Ind., about May 1, 1844, Sdhe died South Bend, Ind., 1858.


Children, by 1st wife:

10466. i. Mary Jane, born 1819; married about 1846, John M. McClintock; lived Baltimore, Md., where she died Sept 1887, and he died 1891; No children.

10467. ii. Susan Catherine, born Rochester, N.Y. Nov 13, 1824

And by 2nd wife:

10468. iii. Adelia, died about 1865.
